Locus-Papal Apartment Comments

  1. This was a very interesting space. This space also seemed to emphasize experiential learning over didactic education. Within this installation, there exists an ambiguity or uncertainty of space. Conceptual designs float and move through the space creating an illusion of weightlessness, while a series of superimposed images hovering just above the central walkway offer a disjointed sense of depth. Visitors are drawn forwards, deeper into the space along a linear path. Seating in the central room affords avatars the opportunity to contemplate their ethereal surroundings. In the third and final room, visitors are offered their first real chance to interact with the space. A hovering ball animates avatars, causing them to float amongst the slowly drifting designs. Here again, images have been superimposed, making it difficult to determine where the space begins and where it ends. This space relies heavily upon the creation of optical illusions, and forces the viewer to question the nature of reality.
